Bisaccia is an ancient lace weave that is achieved on a four-shaft loom entirely hand-powered. The distinctive Bisaccia weaving technique and pattern was first introduced to make wool textiles utilized for making saddlebags in Southern Italy. This technique, featuring a grid where the warp yarns are visible and integral part of the design/pattern, later became a preferred technique, especially on the island of Sardinia, to make wool, cotton and linen bedspreads and rugs. The Bisaccia rug is available in our 48 signature colors among Wool and Linen. Custom colors and sizes are available on request through our bespoke program. Bisaccia can also be customized with embroideries that can either be part of the design of the rug or become an actual functional stitching to combine two or more panels when the required rug dimensions exceed the width of the loom. Upon request, borders can also be customized and decorated with fringes.
